Installation on the banks of the Seine, at the Gustave Flaubert bridge in Rouen. Facing each other, the two inscriptions are an allusion to a famous quote from Flaubert’s correspondance :”De la forme naît l’idée. - From the form springs the idea."
The two notions are linked by the bridge and continue Flaubert’s reflexion. By their typography, their questionning form and their mplacment on the river banks, these two urban inscriptions question the spectator and invite him to cross the bridge.
This projet was born in 2012 as part of the Rêver Rouen programme (see the project The Green Island).
It has been readapted and produced as part of the Flaubert dans la ville art walk, initiated by the UFR de Lettres & Sciences Humaines of the Rouen University Mont Saint-Aignan, at the invitation of curator Sandra Glatigny, and with the help of the Port Autonome de Rouen.
Special thanks to Yves Cornu, Jakob Gautel, Guy Lemonnier and Antoine Simper.
